It's that time of year again for one of the UK's biggest Music Festivals and where you find Hunter Wellington Boots on many of their stars. Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts is the mother of all festivals and an experience not to be missed starting next weekend the 22nd-26th June 2011.

To help celebrate one of Hunter Wellies Fav Festivals we put together some Glasto Festival Facts:

The first Glastonbury Festival was held on the day after Jimi Hendrix died in the 1970's, and was only over two days.
The Cost £1 Entry including free milk from the farm.
In 1981the Pyramid Stage was built but doubling up as a cowshed and animal food store during winter.
1982 saw the highest rainfall for a single day in 45 years was recorded.
1984 acts included: The Smiths, Elvis Costello, The Waterboys and Ian Drury.
1985 the Festival expanded into the neighbouring farm that enlarged the site by 100 acres.
This year raised £100,000 for CND and local charities.
1987 was a year that almost stopped Glasto, the council refused the licence but was later overturned in court.
This was the same year Womad stage was introduced.
1988 No Festival took place to review problems associated with the increase in size.
1990 the festival took the name Glastonbury Festival for Contemporary Performing Arts.
1990 also was the first year they had a professional car parking team.
1991 No Festival due to the disturbances the previous year.
1992 owner Michael Eavis donated profits of the festial to Greenpeace and Oxfam.
This same year saw guests Tom Jones, Shakespear's Sister, Primal Scream, P J Harvey, The Levellers and Carter USM all preform.
80,000 people attended the 1993 festival with Tickets costing £58
13th June 1994 the famous Pyramid stage burnt down.
25 year anniversary for the 1995 festival raised over £400,000 for Greenpeace, Oxfam and local charities.
Another year of no festival was 1996
1997 is becomes known as the "Year of the Mud" and a Hunter Boot must
This was the year 90,000 people attended and tickets cost £75
1998 acts included Blur, Primal Scream, Robbie Williams, Tori Amos, Pulp, Bob Dylan, Roni Size and Chemical Brothers.
1999 100,500 people attended with tickets costing £83
2000 saw the biggest number in Gratecrashers at this event causing no festival for 2001
Tickets were put on sale for 2002 festival and sold out in a week.
Over a Million pounds was paid to the charities from the 2003 festival
Acts for 2004 included: Paul McCartney, Muse, Oasis, James Brown, Joss Stone, Toots and the Maytals, Franz Ferdinand, Scissor Sisters, Black Eyed Peas, Sister Sledge, and Spearhead.
Tickets now cost £112 and 150,000 sold.
Record for 2005 festival tickets sell out in just 3 hours.
Another year of No festival for 2006
Festival-goers were encouraged not to bring loo roll as recycled rolls were provided.
2008 was one of the first years with fine weather no wellies needed!
This was the first year rap megastar Jay-Z headlined proving rap can have a place at a music festival
2009 was hailed the best Glastonbury ever with 135,000 sold for £175 each.
This was Lady Gaga's first UK Music Festival
2010 was the 40th Anniversary
There were now 4,600 toilets available for use and 670 meters of urinals for the guys.

Hunter Wellingtons Boot news on Cambridge Boat Race Win over Oxford

Hunter Wellingtons have been involved in the Cambridge vs. Oxford varsity boat race since the early 1970's. This year marked 156th race between the two University teams creating a spectacular social event for all. Cambridge traditionally wears Green Hunter Originals while their Oxford adversaries wear Navy blue.

Oxford known as the Dark Blues, were the favourites to win this year with a strong start at the beginning of the race and looked set to making it three wins in a row on the Thames. The crews clashed blades at the Hammersmith bend but Oxford failed to keep their lead. Cambridge made their move after Chiswick Steps, going on to win by one and a-half lengths in 17 minutes and 35 seconds.

Victory for Cambridge now means they have 80 wins to Oxford's 75 with one dead heat. This historic event was started in 1829 and continues to be one of the greatest rowing events to watch.

A precious moment I'll never forget.

I loved every moment of calm that it gave.

It's October and already very wet, so your Hunter Wellingtons would be ideal for this years Stow-on-the-Wold Hose Fair being held on the 22ND October 2009. Before the market was established, trading was a haphazard business of barter where town folk of Stow relied on traders passing along the Fosse Way.

In 1476 wool was the main source of wealth and it was agreed by King Edward IV that twice a year for people of Stow and the surrounding hills to bring their sheep to be sold. The first date was to be held on the 12Th May, feast of Saints Philip and James and the second on October 24Th the feast of St Edward the Confessor. These dates are still used today to decide the horse fair.

The nature of trade has changed considerably with the decline in the wool trade, as trade in horses grew to take it's place, and with shops trading all the time in the day to day necessities, the need has fallen. However, the itinerant nature of trading has carried on with the Romanies coming in increasing numbers caring on the tradition. For, them these two dates remain as the most important social event of the year as well as a time and place to buy and sell. This fair has proven to be very popular with famous photographers, artists, and the public who enjoy seeing the traditional horse drawn caravans providing the feeling of stepping back into time.

The Marshalls Living Street shows four gardens trying to achieve the most of modest space embracing greener living and encouraging people to respect the value ownership of a garden. Designer Ian Dexter reflects different needs of respective owners: a newly retired couple, a family of "grow your own" enthusiasts, and a young couple with no children.

The QVC Garden uses simple geometric shapes and designs using cool colours in the planting to enhance a calmness and tranquillity. Adam Frost says his garden is designed for a couple who are rekindling their love of plants and gardening now that their children have left home.

Foreign and Colonial Investments Garden designed by Thomas Hoblyn was inspired by natural landscapes. His garden celebrates the world's most threatened habitats and adaptability of carnivorous plants that thrive in unique conditions.

The Cancer Research UK Garden brings an elegant, timeless manner, inspiration of both architectural and natural world. Robert Myers wanted to display a playful garden reflecting the huge progress the charity had made and continues to make in the fight to beat cancer.

The Daily Telegraph Garden include an awareness of huge variations in nature, culture and climate. Ulf Nordfjell shows how planting can be designed in the spirit of nature rather than mimicking it creating designs of beautiful, natural, and long lasting materials such as granite, steel and timber.

Quilted Velvet Garden is based on a dream following a long journey through everyday life of work and domestic chores, eventually arriving at a place of comfort. Tony Smith can be described as an horticultural artist and has a very instinctive approach between design and art.

The Key created by Paul Stone says his garden is meant to be a journey through life starting with uneven paths, dead ends presenting the feeling of being stuck in a difficult place. Leaving a feeling of what it is like to be homeless. At the end of the garden you get a completely different atmosphere of space and shelter showing a place where you can work, relax and enjoy life.

The HESCO Garden designed by Martin Walker and Leeds City Council have created a stone cottage in a shelter of wood and rocky landscape. Following recent wet summers they show a combination of moisture tolerant plants that will survive occasional flooding by using the shape of the garden to contain and allow gradual percolation of storm water providing a home to colourful, naturalistic planting and abundant wildlife.

The Canary Islands Spa Garden was inspired by the rugged volcanic landscapes of the Canary Island Archipelago. David Cubero and James Wong aim to introduce visitors to steaming thermal spring water, black lava rock and towering palm trees showing a bizarre but unique flora of this remote island chain.

The last of the the thirteen gardens Echoes of Japan in an English Garden by Kay Yamada gives an overall impression of an English country garden, many of the elements and most of the plants have origins in Japan. This design celebrates the Anglo-Japanese Alliance fusion of both cultures and garden styles.

As every gardener knows the British weather can be temperamental at the best of times so it is no surprise about Hunters latest boot collaboration with the Royal Horticultural Society, which features a beautiful range of designs inspired by the society's botanical art archive.

Hunter Wellingtons for WaterAid

Festival Season is on its way and with the British weather it is an essential item. Hunter have a stylish welly that not only keeps your feet dry, it raises much needed funds for WaterAid too!

WaterAid is an international charity that works to provide clean water, sanitation and hygiene education for some of the world's poorest people. Hunter have committed to raising at least £20,000 for WaterAid this year with a limited edition Original Boot.

Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis, convinced that the festival would be mud free (he was wrong!), even auctioned off his pair and raised £100 for WaterAid!

Fortnum and Mason is recognised internationally for its high quality goods and as an iconic British symbol. Renowned for its "quintessential English charm is one of the most famous stores in the world. Fortnum and Mason is the shop most closely associated with the British Royal Family and has held many Royal Warrants for over 150 years.

Fortnum & Mason were pioneering importers of new and exotic foodstuffs from all corners of the British Empire. It was to start with William Fortnum who became a footman in the royal household of Queen Anne in 1707. Every night he replaced the candles used by the royal family with new ones. The used candles he promptly resold to ladies of the royal household for a tidy profit. Soon his small profit turned into a tidy savings to start his own business.

Fortnum then convinced his landlord, Hugh Mason, to go into the grocery business with him, and they set up a shop Fortnum & Mason. Its headquarters are located at 181 Piccadilly where it was established in 1707. The store in Piccadilly introduced specialty items aimed directly at the well-heeled residents of the area. Such delicacies as game in aspic jelly embellished with prawns and lobster were provided ready-to-eat.

Not to be kept back in time they have an account card, but it is only supplied to 'favoured customers' and reputedly cannot be obtained via application. Previously, account customers used to just give their names to the frock-coat wearing staff and signed for their goods, with the monthly bill being sent on afterwards. Some of its most famous, (non-Royal) customers and account card holders include Terence Stamp, Jane Asher, Marc Sinden, Elizabeth Hurley and Adam Faith.

Hunter Boot have teamed up with fellow Royal Warrant brand Fortnum & Mason to create a new style classic: the eau de nil Wellington Boot. This will surely be a must-have for festival fashionistas and green fingered style-lovers alike.

2009 Hunter Festival Wellingtons

At the time of Shakespeare's birth Stratford-upon-Avon was a prosperous market town with a population of around 2,000. This peaceful and uneventful environment was soon to be disrupted by the Plague that claimed about 250 victims among the Stratford folk. Towards the end of the 16th century the town's economic prosperity declined with the crisis of the wool trade and this was the first of a whole series of adverse circumstances that was to alter the hitherto peaceful existence of the town.

Again, towards the end of the 16th century, and precisely 22 September 1594, a fire destroyed many of the timber-framed houses in High Street, Chapel Street and Henley Street. Many of the houses between Bridge Street and Sheep Street suffered a similar fate the following year. In 1612 a third fire broke out destroying more than 50 other buildings. Yet another fire in 1641 destroyed much of Bridge Street.

Although it is generally thought that the Falcon in Chapel Street dates back to around the year 1500 the similarities between the close-studding of its lower sections and that of other buildings rebuilt after the fires in the last decade of the 16th century tend to indicate a later date.

The Hunter Story is a symbol of British country life that has graced catwalks from New York, Paris, Milan to London. They remain the preferred welly brand from the Royal Family to festival-goers like K ate Moss, working farmers and landed gentry alike.

We can thank Mr Henry Lee Norris, an American entrepreneur, who in 1856 landed on Scottish soil in search of a home for his boot making company. That September after having acquired a block of buildings in Edinburgh, known as the Castle Silk Mills, the North British Rubber Company was registered as a limited liability company with only four members of staff.

Popularity of the wellington boots was growing by 1875 the team had grown to 600 members of staff. Production of wellington boots was dramatically boosted again with the advent of World War I when the company was asked by the War Office to construct a sturdy boot suitable for the conditions in flooded trenches. In total, 1,185,036 pairs were made to cope with the Army's demands. This fashionable boot was now a functional necessity.

At the outbreak of World War II in September, 80% of the North British Rubber Company's production was for war materials - from ground sheets to life belts and gas masks. By the end of the war due to rationing labourers began to wear the rubber boots for everyday work the Wellington had become popular among men and women for use in wet weather. This lead to the birth of Hunter's most famous welly, the Original Green Wellington, made over 50 years ago in the winter of 1955.

By the 1980's a pair of Hunter Originals worn by Lady Diana Spencer in her engagement photographs, sparks a fashion spurge. Hunters were to become an essential item for those guided in upmarket country fashion. They were now synonymous with the much caricatured figures of The Sloane Ranger Handbook.

To date Hunters have expanded the Originals colour pallet, you can buy Silver, Gold, White, Midnight Sparkle and Black to just name a few. This summer will see the launch of the Hunter Limited Edition Festival range and the new Balmoral range.
